The XtraCycle is one of the single most effective ways to turn your bike into a versatile, car-replacing pedal-powered pick-up. We don’t manufacture the XtraCycle, but John helped Ross Evans to develop the original XtraCycle, and the original XtraCycle cargo bags were prototyped here by John at the Sylvan Cycles workshop.  And John Coull donated the host bicycle, pictured here. The XtraCycle is now available for both 26” and 700C frames and wheels.

The Xtracycle is a highly configurable system -- contact us for configuration options and pricing.

XtraCycle inventor Ross Evans with the original prototype at Pioneer Valley Cohousing, 1998.

The Sylvan Cycles workshop can just be seen in the background, above Ross’s helmet. Ross and John took this up and down the length of Manhattan one day, with each other for cargo!

(Ross is also wearing one of John’s ecotrek backpacks, the first technical packs made primarily from post-consumer recycled plastics, and embodying a “cradle-to cradle” design and manufacturing strategy. The ecotrek pack line went on to become the basis for Marmot’s backpack line, and is held in the Smithsonian. )
